KCAN was established in 1994 under the Local Development Programme, to support the communities of Newpark Close, Bishops Birch Place, Loughboy, Hebron Park and The Butts.
This remit was later expanded to include the Traveller community and people with disabilities.
The organisation receives funding under the Local Development Social Inclusion Program (LDSIP)
KCAN provides a range of services and supports, depending on the needs of its target groups, these actions are implemented under three headings.

1. Community Development
2. Community Based Youth Initiatives
3. Services to the Long Term Unemployed.

The Training and employment services offered by KCAN are as follows.

One to one support:

This is a first stop shop for individuals looking for support in seeking out employment, Training or enterprise opportunities.

Training programs (KCAN implements the following programs for specific target groups)

  • Kilkenny Woman's Community Education Program (Woman furthest from Education )
  • Traveller Men's Health Training (Traveller Men)
  • Horticulture training FEETAC level 3 & 4 (All Long Term Unemployed)
  • Introductory Hotel training. (All Unemployed)
  • Traveller Woman's return to work program (Traveller woman).
