Health Service Executive A new agency, the Health Service Executive (HSE), assumed responsibility for the health service in the Republic of Ireland on January 1, 2005.
As part of the Irish government's Health Service Reform Programme, the functions of Health Boards, including the South Eastern Health Board, have transferred to the HSE. The former South Eastern Health Board is now under the auspices of the Health Service Executive and is known as HSE - South Eastern Area.

Comhairle is the new national support agency responsible for the provision of information, advice and advocacy to members of the public on social services. Comhairle combines all aspects of the work of the National Social Service Board (NSSB) and the relevant information functions of the National Rehabilitation Board (NRB). As a statutory agency, Comhairle will come within the remit of the Department of Social, Community & Family Affairs. The Kilkenny Offices are located on the Parade. | FÁS Employment Services Fas offices in Kilkenny are located in Irishtown. The agency assist unemployed persons through further training and employment placement. They also operate Community Employment Schemes. |

The Environmental Protection Agency The Environmental Protection Agency checks the environmental quality of the rivers and public waterways on behalf of local government agencies.
